Hikarishi (光し) is not a standard word, but it comes from hikari (光) – “light”. It can sound like “that which was light” or “the former light”.

This series is a memory of the light that once lived inside, everyone noticed it and you, like a little firefly, illuminated the way for yourself and others. This series is about childhood, filled with trust, warmth and naive faith in the world.

The light on a child’s face is not only a symbol of inner radiance, but also a reference to a scientific fact, because the human body does emit light, but it is a billion times weaker than our eye is able to catch. We literally glow, but we don’t see it.
So in this series, I explore the light inside us that becomes invisible over time.
But I want to understand whether it really has to be completely dark in order to shine again?
